Key Features

1.

Extra-Long Rubber-Coated Handles

The handles on the DRE8035 are longer than standard crunch machine handles and coated in rubber along their full length. The length addresses the shoulder mobility problem that makes standard crunch machines inconsistent across a commercial user population — short handles require the user to flex the shoulders upward significantly to reach the grip, and when shoulder mobility is limited, the shoulders pull the spine into extension rather than allowing the trunk to flex forward cleanly. The extra-long handles are reachable at a lower shoulder angle, removing shoulder mobility as a limiting variable and keeping the spinal position neutral from the starting position through to peak contraction. The rubber coating provides secure grip without requiring grip force that would create shoulder tension during the crunch.
2.

Rear Pelvic Support Pad

The small pad at the back of the seat is angled to match the natural posterior pelvic tilt that occurs during an effective crunch movement. When the pelvis tilts posteriorly at the start of the crunch, the abdominal muscles are pre-tensioned and positioned to generate spinal flexion force efficiently. When the pelvis remains in a neutral or anteriorly tilted position, the hip flexors take over progressively as the abs fatigue through the set. The angled pelvic pad guides the pelvis into posterior tilt passively — the user simply sits against it and the pad geometry produces the correct pelvic position without requiring deliberate voluntary pelvic tilt technique under load.
3.

3-Position Seat Adjustment

The seat adjusts across three positions via a pop pin, with each position changing the angle of the crunch movement path. The standard position aligns the crunch path with the straight spinal flexion direction that loads the rectus abdominis most directly. Adjusting to either of the angled positions introduces a lateral component to the movement path that shifts the primary emphasis to the internal or external obliques — the muscles responsible for lateral trunk flexion and rotation that straight crunch training does not specifically isolate. Three positions covering all three primary abdominal target muscles means the DRE8035 serves as a complete abdominal development station rather than a single-function rectus machine.
4.

Linkage-Driven Moving Arms

The crunch arm mechanism operates through a linkage-driven system, a multi-pivot mechanical architecture that changes the arm's effective pivot point through the arc rather than maintaining a single fixed pivot. The spine does not flex around a single fixed axis; the flexion arc follows the vertebral column's curvature as each vertebral level contributes progressively to the forward fold. A fixed-pivot arm forces the resistance direction to diverge from the abdominal muscles' shortening direction at the extremes of the arc — typically feeling either loose at the start or jammed at the peak. The linkage-driven arm stays aligned with the trunk's flexion path from the fully extended starting position through to peak contraction, producing a consistent crunch feel that fixed-pivot machines cannot replicate.
5.

Wide Seat and Firm Leg Pads

The seat is wide enough to support the full length of the thighs from the hip crease to just above the knee, a surface contact area significantly larger than narrow-seat crunch machines that only contact the posterior thigh. Full thigh contact distributes the lower body support load across the thigh surface, reducing the point pressure at the seat edge that narrow seats create. The leg pads are moderately firm rather than soft, which provides the resistance against upward leg movement needed to lock the hip angle throughout the crunch. A soft leg pad compresses under the load of the hip flexors pulling upward during a heavy set and loses its ability to anchor the hip angle before the abdominals have reached failure.
