Calf Raise Machines

Collection: Calf Raise Machines

Calves are one of the most stubborn muscle groups to develop, and bodyweight raises stop working quickly. A dedicated calf raise machine lets you load them properly, hold a full stretch at the bottom, and progress week after week. We carry both seated and standing options, because each one trains the lower leg differently and a complete program needs both.

Seated and Standing Calf Raise Machines

Most people train calves with whatever is available: a step, a Smith machine, the edge of a leg press platform. Those work early on, but they share a problem. Balancing takes effort, the range of motion gets cut short, and the load you can handle is limited by stability rather than strength. A proper calf machine removes all of that so the calves do the work.

Seated vs Standing: Why the Knee Angle Matters

Your calf is made of two main muscles, and knee position decides which one works hardest. The gastrocnemius is the larger, visible muscle that gives the calf its shape. It crosses the knee joint, so it works best when your leg is straight. The soleus sits underneath and does not cross the knee, so it takes over when your knee is bent.

That is the whole reason both machines exist. Standing calf raises build the gastrocnemius. Seated calf raises build the soleus. Train only one and you leave half the muscle underdeveloped.

Seated Calf Raise Machine

The Seated Calf Raise DSH015 is a plate-loaded machine from our DSH Plate Loaded Series. A padded lever rests across your thighs while you drive up through the balls of your feet, with the knee held at a fixed bend throughout. Because it loads with Olympic plates, you can add weight in small steps and keep progressing long after lighter options run out. Its compact footprint makes it an easy addition to a home gym.

Standing Calf Raise Machine

The Standing Calf Raise DSA019 is a selectorized machine from our DSA Series. Shoulder pads carry the load down through a straight leg, which puts the gastrocnemius under full tension. A pin-select weight stack makes changing load quick, which suits drop sets and commercial floors where several people share the machine through the day.

Building a Complete Lower Body Setup

If you only have room for one, choose based on what you already own. Many lifters get some straight-leg calf work from a leg press, so a seated machine fills the bigger gap. You can also train calves on the Leg Press/Hack Squat DRE8016 between leg sets. For a full lower body area, pair a calf machine with options from our Squat Machines and Hamstring Machines collections, or browse the complete Lower Body Machines range.

Every calf machine ships free to the 48 contiguous states, financing is available, and we accept HSA and FSA payments. You can try both machines at our Venice showroom before you decide.
