Smith Row DSH059
Smith Row DSH059
The Dynasty Fitness DSH059 Smith Row is a plate-loaded guided back row machine that trains the latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, and trapezius through a horizontal pulling movement along a dual-axis linear bearing track, delivering the loading feel of a barbell bent-over row with the path consistency of a guided machine. Two guide rods and four φ52×φ35×70mm linear motion bearings carry the bar handle through a smooth, controlled travel path so the pull quality stays consistent across every rep regardless of fatigue or load. An oversized 560×350×70mm torso support pad distributes the chest contact load evenly and reduces the lower back stress that unsupported bent-over rowing accumulates across heavy sets, and a multi-grip handle system with 300mm main grips and additional limit grip positions covers wide to narrow orientations for both lat sweep and mid-back thickness training. A 5-position anti-slip footplate accommodates different ankle mobility levels and stance preferences. Built from PT60×120×2.5mm steel with a 551 lb bilateral load capacity in matte black, the DSH059 is built for commercial gyms, back-focused training studios, and serious home gym setups where supported guided plate-loaded rowing is a core back programming tool.
- Plate-loaded guided row machine with a dual-axis linear bearing system — two guide rods and four precision linear motion bearings — delivering the controlled bar path consistency that a free barbell bent-over row cannot maintain under fatigue
- Oversized 560×350×70mm torso support pad with adjustable angle distributes the chest load evenly and removes the lower back stabilisation demand that makes heavy unsupported bent-over rowing a limiting factor before the back muscles reach failure
- Multi-grip handle system with 300mm primary handles and additional limit grip positions covers wide for lat width emphasis through narrow for rhomboid and mid-trapezius thickness without changing attachments between sets
- 5-position adjustable anti-slip footplate accommodates different ankle mobility levels and stance angles so the standing row position can be optimised for each user's lower body proportions

Exercises and muscles targeted
| Exercise | Muscles Targeted |
|---|---|
| Smith Row - Wide Grip | Latissimus Dorsi (width and upper fibres, primary), Teres Major (primary), Posterior Deltoid (secondary), Rhomboids (secondary), Biceps Brachii (secondary) |
| Smith Row - Narrow Grip | Rhomboids (primary - elbows tracking closer to body increases rhomboid and mid-back loading), Middle and Lower Trapezius (primary), Latissimus Dorsi (secondary), Biceps Brachii (secondary), Rear Deltoid (secondary) |
| Smith Row - Isometric Hold (peak retraction) | Rhomboids (sustained scapular retraction isometric, primary), Middle and Lower Trapezius (primary), Latissimus Dorsi (sustained), Rear Deltoid, Erector Spinae (stabiliser through hold) |
| Smith Row - Slow Eccentric | Latissimus Dorsi (eccentric stretch to full arm extension, primary), Rhomboids (eccentric scapular protraction), Biceps Brachii (eccentric), Rear Deltoid, Teres Major (eccentric) |
| Smith Row - Underhand Grip | Latissimus Dorsi (supinated grip increases lat engagement, primary), Biceps Brachii (increased contribution in supinated position, secondary), Rhomboids, Teres Major (secondary) |
The Smith Row provides the horizontal pulling pattern that builds back thickness through the mid-back rhomboids, trapezius, and latissimus dorsi, in a guided environment that removes the bar path management and lumbar stabilisation demands of an unsupported barbell bent-over row. With the torso supported against the pad, the back muscles can work to failure without the erector spinae and lower back becoming the limiting factor partway through a heavy set, which is the most common reason that unsupported bent-over rows produce less back stimulus than the weight on the bar suggests.
