The flat bench press is one of the few barbell movements that directly loads the pectoralis major through a full horizontal pressing arc, with the anterior deltoid and triceps contributing as the weight increases. Grip width genuinely changes where the stress falls: a standard grip spreads the load across the chest and shoulders, a close grip shifts it toward the triceps, and a wide grip isolates the outer pec more aggressively. The DRE6004 accommodates all three grip positions across its Olympic barbell hooks.
