The DPB401 Hip Thruster is a plate-loaded horizontal hip extension machine that replaces the barbell of a traditional hip thrust with a high-elastic resistance belt and quick-release buckle, removing the pressure point, lateral drift, and setup time that make heavy barbell hip thrusting impractical without a dedicated machine.
Built at 70.9"x57.0"x30.7" and 302 lbs, in standard black with a purple pre-order option, the DPB401 loads the hips evenly through the belt, adjusts to any body along a linear-bearing guide rail, and rolls across the floor on built-in wheels.
- High-elastic belt system: Replaces the barbell with a belt and quick-release buckle that spreads load across the full hip width for faster, more comfortable loading.
- Linear-bearing guide rail: Adjusts back pad to footplate distance for any torso and leg length without tools, so the hip travels the correct arc every rep.
- Band pegs for peak resistance: Add bands at full hip extension where plates drop off, increasing glute contraction intensity beyond plate load alone.
- Built-in transport wheels: Reposition the 302 lb frame across the floor solo, no second person or handling equipment needed.

Exercises and muscles targeted
Exercises and muscles targeted
The hip thrust is consistently identified in force plate and EMG research as one of the highest-activation exercises for the gluteus maximus, because it places maximum tension at full hip extension where the glute is mechanically strongest. Unlike squats and deadlifts, which load the glute hardest at the bottom, the hip thrust loads it most at the top, which is why it is used alongside squat and hinge patterns for complete glute development.
| Exercise | Muscles Targeted |
|---|---|
| Hip Thrust (bilateral) | Gluteus Maximus (peak activation at full hip extension, primary), Gluteus Medius (secondary), Hamstrings — Biceps Femoris long head (secondary), Core and Erector Spinae (stabiliser) |
| Single-Leg Hip Thrust | Gluteus Maximus (unilateral, primary), Gluteus Medius (resists pelvic drop, stabiliser), Hamstrings — Biceps Femoris (secondary), Core (rotational stabiliser) |
| Hip Thrust with Band Resistance | Gluteus Maximus (accommodating resistance, peak tension at full extension, primary), Gluteus Medius, Hamstrings (secondary), Core (stabiliser under variable load) |
| Hip Thrust Isometric Hold | Gluteus Maximus (sustained peak contraction, primary), Gluteus Medius, Hamstrings — Biceps Femoris long head, Erector Spinae (isometric stabiliser) |
| Hip Thrust Pulse (partial ROM) | Gluteus Maximus (extended time under tension in the upper half of the movement, primary), Gluteus Medius, Hamstrings (secondary, sustained activation) |
