The Dynasty Fitness DPB403 Standing Abductor is a plate-loaded hip abduction machine that trains the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus in a standing position, where the support leg must stabilise the pelvis throughout the set alongside the working leg driving outward, creating a simultaneous bilateral lateral glute demand that seated abduction machines remove by fixing the pelvis against the seat. A biomechanically optimised lever system on six 6005-2Z bearings and four joint bearings guides the working leg through a smooth, consistent abduction arc, and two inward-curved leg pads maintain continuous outer thigh contact through the full movement range rather than losing pad contact at peak abduction as flat-surface alternatives do. Dual barbell tubes accept Olympic plates for progressive loading, front-mounted band attachment pegs add accommodating resistance at peak abduction for peak contraction overload, and extended anti-slip handles keep the torso upright and stable so lateral trunk compensation does not take over from the glutes during heavy sets. Built at 71.1" × 37.0" × 59.8" at 282 lbs, available in standard black with purple as a pre-order custom option, the DPB403 is built for commercial gyms, glute-focused training studios, and serious home gym setups where progressive plate-loaded standing hip abduction for gluteus medius and minimus development is a lateral glute programming priority.
- Plate-loaded standing hip abductor that trains the gluteus medius and minimus in a standing position, which activates the lateral glute and pelvic stabilisers more directly than seated abduction
- Inward-curved leg pads maintain continuous contact with the thigh through the full abduction arc, preventing the leg from losing pad contact mid-rep and breaking the resistance transfer
- Dual barbell tubes accept Olympic plates for progressive loading, and front-mounted band pegs add accommodating resistance at peak abduction for deeper peak contraction
- Extended anti-slip handles provide stable upper body support throughout each rep so the effort goes entirely into the hip abduction rather than managing balance

Exercises and muscles targeted
Exercises and muscles targeted
| Exercise | Muscles Targeted |
|---|---|
| Standing Hip Abduction | Gluteus Medius (primary — full abduction range), Gluteus Minimus (primary), Tensor Fasciae Latae (secondary), Gluteus Maximus — upper fibres (secondary), Core and Quadratus Lumborum (stabiliser — resists lateral trunk lean) |
| Standing Hip Abduction with Band Resistance | Gluteus Medius (peak contraction overload at full abduction — primary), Gluteus Minimus (primary), Tensor Fasciae Latae (secondary), Core (stabiliser under variable load) |
| Hip Abduction Isometric Hold | Gluteus Medius (sustained isometric contraction at peak abduction), Gluteus Minimus, Tensor Fasciae Latae, Quadratus Lumborum (stabiliser), Single-leg balance muscles — Tibialis Anterior, Peroneus Longus (support leg) |
| Hip Abduction Pulse (partial ROM at peak) | Gluteus Medius (time under tension in the upper range — primary), Gluteus Minimus, Tensor Fasciae Latae (sustained activation), Core (continuous stabiliser load) |
| Single-Leg Balance Hold (support leg) | Gluteus Medius (support leg — prevents Trendelenburg drop), Tibialis Anterior, Peroneus Longus, Gastrocnemius (balance stabilisers), Core (lateral stabilisers — Obliques, Quadratus Lumborum) |
The gluteus medius and minimus are the muscles responsible for lateral hip stability, pelvic levelling during walking and running, and the outer glute shape visible from the front and side. Seated abduction trains these muscles, but standing abduction adds a balance and pelvic control demand that the seated version removes. On the DPB403, the support leg gluteus medius must work throughout the entire set to keep the pelvis level while the working leg drives outward, which means both legs are training simultaneously through different demands.
