Multi Back Extension DPB410

The Dynasty Fitness DPB410 Multi Back Extension is a plate-loaded glute and posterior chain machine that trains hip extension with the knee held in a flexed position throughout the movement, exploiting the mechanical disadvantage of the hamstrings at a bent knee to shift the primary load onto the gluteus maximus rather than distributing it equally between the glutes and hamstrings as a straight-leg back extension does. A 9-position pneumatic leg pad with gas spring assistance adjusts to different user heights and thigh lengths with one hand, and a 5-level rear footplate height setting changes the degree of knee flexion to tune the balance between pure glute isolation and combined posterior chain activation within the same machine. Two flanged anti-slip footplate covers in flat and angled configurations accommodate different ankle mobility profiles and stance preferences, and five front-mounted grip handles allow safe solo entry, exit, and positional bracing. A single centrally positioned barbell tube accepts Olympic plates for progressive plate-loaded loading. Built at 68.2" × 41.4" × 46.8" at 302 lbs, available in standard black with purple as a pre-order custom option, the DPB410 is built for commercial gyms, glute-focused training studios, and serious home gym setups where dedicated knee-flexed hip extension for gluteus maximus isolation is a posterior chain programming priority.
- Plate-loaded multi back extension machine that trains the glutes, hamstrings, and spinal erectors through hip extension with the knee flexed, shifting peak load onto the gluteus maximus
- 9-position pneumatic leg pad adjusts height and angle with gas spring assistance so users of different heights find correct thigh alignment without manually forcing a stiff mechanism
- 5-level rear footplate height adjustment sets the knee flexion angle precisely, changing how much glute versus hamstring activation the movement produces
- Dual footplates with flanged anti-slip edges accommodate flat and angled stance options, keeping the feet anchored through the full hip extension drive under heavy loads

Exercises and muscles targeted
Exercises and muscles targeted
| Exercise | Muscles Targeted |
|---|---|
| Hip Extension — Knee Flexed (bilateral) | Gluteus Maximus (primary — hamstrings shortened, glute takes full load), Erector Spinae (secondary — lumbar and thoracic), Gluteus Medius (stabiliser), Hamstrings (reduced due to knee flexion — active at reduced length) |
| Hip Extension — Lower Footplate Position (greater knee flexion) | Gluteus Maximus (maximum isolation — hamstring contribution further reduced at deeper knee flexion, primary), Erector Spinae (secondary), Gluteus Medius (stabiliser) |
| Hip Extension — Higher Footplate Position (less knee flexion) | Gluteus Maximus (primary), Hamstrings (greater contribution as knee approaches extension — Biceps Femoris, Semimembranosus), Erector Spinae (secondary) |
| Hip Extension Isometric Hold (peak contraction) | Gluteus Maximus (sustained isometric contraction at full hip extension), Erector Spinae (isometric), Gluteus Medius, Multifidus (stabiliser) |
| Eccentric Hip Extension (controlled lowering) | Gluteus Maximus (eccentric overload — maximum muscle damage stimulus), Erector Spinae (eccentric), Hamstrings (eccentric at shortened position), Multifidus and Quadratus Lumborum (stabiliser) |
The defining mechanical characteristic of the DPB410 is that the knee is flexed throughout the hip extension movement. This shortens the hamstrings, which reduces their ability to contribute to the drive and shifts the primary load onto the gluteus maximus. This is the opposite of a straight-leg back extension where both the glutes and hamstrings contribute. The DPB410 is therefore a more targeted glute isolation exercise than a conventional hyperextension, while still training the erector spinae as a secondary contributor through the lumbar extension component of the movement.
